Many people attended this afternoon a unprecedented changing of the military guard in the Plaza de Mayo. Simultaneously, the Granaderos, Patricios and General Iriarte regiments carried out this ceremony, which involved more than 200 troops who, with their different gala costumes, added color to the Buenos Aires afternoon.

Each regiment is in charge of guarding a different official area. The “General San Martín” Horse Grenadier Regiment is responsible for the custody of the Pink House. The 1 Patricios Infantry Regiment performs the same function in the Council and the Artillery Regiment 1 “Brigadier General Tomás Iriarte”, is stationed in the Ministry of Defence.
Tripartite show
Changing of the guard historically occurs separately, but The Government decided today to start a new tripartite show that will be repeated in the Plaza de Mayo every first Saturday of the month around noon. It was also announced that similar activities would be carried out, although no dates were made official, in “the historical units in the interior of the country.”
As officially reported by the Ministry of Defense, the intention of carrying out this military spectacle once a month aims to generate an “extraordinary and emotional event for the public, as occurs in other countries with a great tradition in this type of ceremonies where the relays carried out by “Traditional units represent cultural events with tourist attractions.”
The military parade also participated Tacuarí Drum band of the 1 Patricios Infantry Regimentwhich added military music to the activity that took place in the central area of the Plaza de Mayo.
