Vilius Gaubas and Patricija Paukštytė, who regained the title of the Lithuanian men’s first racket, rose to the highest career positions in the professional tennis rankings published on May 6.
Men
In the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), 19-year-old Vilius Gaubas crossed another symbolic threshold. The young Lithuanian tennis player entered the top 300 for the first time in the ranking published on May 6.
V.Gaubas, compared to the previous week (last week the rankings were not published), rose by as many as 60 lines – to the 285th place (from the 345th). He again surpassed the long-time Lithuanian tennis leader Ričardas Berankis, who also rose, but not so significantly – to the 324th place (from the 329th).
19-year-old Ed Butvil is also among the top 1000. He rose to 532nd place (from 545th). The best result of E. Butvil’s career is 524th place.
The leaders of the ATP ranking do not change. Serbian Novak Djokovic remains in first place, Italian Jannik Sinner in second, Spanish Carlos Alcaraz in third, Russian Daniil Medvedev in fourth, and German Alexander Zverev in fifth.
Women
Although V.Gaubas rose in many positions in two weeks, 19-year-old Patricija Paukštytė made an even more impressive flight in the ranking of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). She rose from 1018th to a career high of 838th (180 ranks).
True, P. Paukštytė remains the fourth Lithuanian women’s racket.
The highest place among Lithuanians is occupied by Justina Mikulskytė. Her name is listed on the 224th line of the WTA ranking. J. Mikulskytė’s career record is 219th place.
Klaudija Bubelytė takes the 711th place, Andrė Lukošiūtė – the 776th place.
The clear leader of the WTA ranking is the Polish Iga Šwiątek, who won the tournament in Madrid last weekend. She is followed by Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, American Coco Gauf, Kazakh Jelena Rybakina and American Jessica Pegula.
