For the 3rd quarter of the year, Energean’s confirmation drilling is planned for the proven natural gas field in the Moroccan sea in the Atlantic, based on the lease agreement of the floating drilling rig Stena Forth, signed with Stena Drilling Limited.


Energean entered into the contract following the formal completion of the agreement to acquire the role of Operator, as well as 45% and 37% interests respectively in the Lixus and Risanna licenses, in which Chariot Limited and ONIM, the National Hydrocarbons Office also participate. and Minerals of Morocco. Energean has already paid the intended price of $10 million to Chariot Limited.
“We are excited to start operating in Morocco, where we hope to repeat our previous successes in the Mediterranean: to strengthen domestic production, to help meet growing domestic demand, with the prospect of exporting excess quantities, and to facilitate both security in energy planning as well as the reduction of carbon use in the long term”, stated, on the occasion of the completion of the agreement, the CEO of the Energean group, Mathios Rigas.
The agreement includes the development of the exploitable Anchois field, which contains 18 billion cubic meters of natural gas, and which is located close to infrastructure for the supply of natural gas to the Moroccan market, but also to international markets. Confirmatory drilling also targets an additional 11 billion cubic meters of prospective resources to be exploited through the development of Anchois.
