This is a strike of rare magnitude in the American automobile sector. At midnight on Friday, September 15, the American Auto Workers Union launched a simultaneous strike at three major factories, as wage negotiations remained deadlocked following the expiration of the collective agreement.

“For the first time in our history, we will strike among the three members of the “Big Three””, declared the president of the United Auto Workers union. The three factories involved – Ford, Stellantis and General Motors – which employ a total of around 12,700 people, are essential to the production of some of the best-selling models by the three manufacturers. The consulting firm Anderson Economic Group estimates that a ten-day strike could represent more than $5 billion (4.69 billion euros) in lost revenue for the American economy.
