The Supreme Council of State released a speech, delivered by its President, Khaled Al-Mishri, from the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli.
Al-Mishri stated that despite their victory in the second round of presidential elections for the Supreme Council of State, they were unable to complete the election for the presidency due to legal controversy surrounding an election paper. The Legal Committee of the Supreme Council of State had resolved the issue.
He emphasized their adherence to the law and their willingness to reconsider the previous election if the judiciary grants any rights to the former president, Mohamed Takala. Al-Mishri added that they had begun their work at the Supreme Council of State to complete the electoral entitlements and launch the Council’s activities.
He stressed the importance of unity within the Supreme Council of State, highlighting its significance for the capital, Tripoli, and the western region as a precursor to national unity across Libya. Al-Mishri emphasized their commitment to holding free and fair elections to transfer power to the people.
He expressed concern over recent events in Tripoli and called for calm and an end to bloodshed. Al-Mishri also called for support and solidarity with the people of Gaza facing aggression and criminal acts.
The speech concluded with a reminder of the ongoing conflict in Gaza and a call for international support.
