A Military Police of Sao Paulo (PM) arrested 76 people and recovered 29 vehicles during the Operation Impact in neighborhoods in the south and west zones of São Paulo. Of this number, 62 people were arrested in flagrante delicto and another 14 were wanted by the Justice. The 29 vehicles recovered by the agents had complaints of robbery or theft and removed five illegal firearms from circulation. The action took place between the 24th and 26th of July. Policing was reinforced with more than 220 police officers in the neighborhoods of Pinheiros, Moema, Jardins, as well as Avenidas Faria Lima and Paulista. In addition, 1.3 kilos of various drugs were seized. In all, more than 36 parking spots were set up and more than 2,700 incidents were handled by the police, including traffic accidents, disturbances and other crimes. The information is from the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo (SSP). According to the SSP, actions take place daily in two shifts and are carried out by Metropolitan Area Policing Commands (CPA/M) 1, 2 and 5, with the support of specialized units, such as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalions of Shock and the Traffic Policing Command (CPTran).
According to the folder, the action aims to curb crime in the so-called expanded center of São Paulo. “This Impact Operation is being implemented in these neighborhoods because we identified a slightly lower perception of safety than in other locations in São Paulo. It is an ostensive action to avoid the increase of crime in this so-called expanded center”, highlighted the secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Melts.
