It has already been reported that the organizers of the tournament have published a conversation with Timma on their “Instagram” account, in which he confirms that he will participate in the “Media Basket” project organized by “Liga Stavok”.
“First of all, it is necessary to find out if it is not a fake news,” states Tsiprus. “If this is true, the Latvian legislation determines the action in such cases.”
The general secretary of LBS reminds that the basketball community usually reacts sharply to events related to Ukraine.
“I think it is not important whether a Latvian athlete in Russia participates in a professional competition or a commercial tournament. In this case, it is about values,” Tsiprus emphasizes.
In the “Spelet.lv NBA Latvija” account on the “X.com” website, it is mentioned that Timma will represent the “Alikson” team.
Playing in Russia, which has caused a war in Ukraine, will mean that Timma will no longer be allowed to represent Latvia.
In games, each team has three basketball players on the court, and the game takes place on both baskets for ten minutes.
This is the fourth season of the “Media Basket” project. This season, the games take place from October 12 to November 23.
Timma, who played his first game in the national team in 2014, has played 35 official games in the shirt of the Latvian national team, scoring 338 points, while in total the basketball player has participated in 56 games of the Latvian national team, scoring 513 points.
The last time Timma played for the Latvian national team was in the qualification tournament of the Paris Olympic Games at the beginning of July in Riga, as the Latvian national team did not qualify for the Paris Games.
The basketball player started the last season in the ranks of Istanbul “Darushşafaka” in the Turkish championship, but finished the season together with Jānis Strēlnieks in the Spanish Premier League club “Obradoiro” of Santiago de Campos.
The basketball player spent part of the 2022/2023 season without a club and made his debut in the Puerto Rico Championship in the ranks of Umacao “Grises”, but after four games, Timma and the club parted ways. After that, the Latvian basketball player spent the season in the “Big3” league in the “Aliens” unit.
On the other hand, in the first half of the 2021/2022 season, the Kraslav player was part of the Russian club Kazan “Unics”, playing three Euroleague matches in this unit. He spent the second half of the season with the Lakeland Magic of the G League of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Abroad, the basketball player has also played in Piraeus “Olympiakos”, St. Petersburg “Zenit”, Vittoria “Baskonia” and Moscow Region “Khimki” teams. During his career, Timma has also represented the Latvian teams “ASK Rīga”, ASK/”Juniors”, “Liepājas lauvas”, “Ventspils” and “VEF Rīga”.
