In Toulouse, My object library advocates renting rather than buying

by time news

Pool objects to protect the environment. This is the creed of the association My library of objects, launched in February in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), which offers low-cost rental of gardening equipment, DIY, small household appliances and everyday objects. The idea is to give members the benefit of objects that often lie dormant in cupboards for lack of regular use.

“We have the ambition to offer the most professional service possible, for a solution allowing people to consume differently and to avoid overconsumption for the planet, explains Fabien Estivals, founder of Ma Bibliothèque d’objets, with Marie Boillot. It’s ridiculous to have items to use only once a year. Rental takes place on a weekly basis, for rates between two and fifteen euros, depending on the object. We are not a platform between neighbors, if there is a problem with an object, we solve it. »

Tent, mower, drill, baby carrier, flippers, sewing machine… there’s something for everyone! Nearly 250 objects, new, loaned or used, often donated by companies and individuals, are currently referenced. The catalog is enriched each week, with ten to twenty objects. To simplify the delivery of objects, the founders of the association, which already has around fifty members, deliver the objects rented on a weekly basis to five pick-up points located in different districts of Toulouse.

The founders of My Library of Objects want to go further by eventually offering training workshops to learn how to repair an object, know how to install a shelf or make hems. This social and solidarity economy project is supported by Toulouse Métropole.
