In Trujillo parishioners venerated the Nazarene

As is tradition, every Holy Wednesday the Catholic people of the state of Trujillo participate in the procession of the image of Jesus of Nazareth, in the various ecclesiastical parishes of the entity.

In the La Quebrada parish of the Urdaneta municipality, the parishioners overflowed the streets of the town in the first procession of the Nazarene, which took place at 10 in the morning.

During the tour, the people of Quebrada, mostly dressed in purple, paid promises, prayed the Holy Rosary and made personal and collective requests. At five in the afternoon they participated in the second mass and in the living Stations of the Cross.

Also in the ecclesiastical parish of San Juan Bautista in the Pampanito municipality, the parishioners participated in the procession of the Nazarene that left at 3:30 in the afternoon from the Inavi Commune, toured the La Muralla sector, the main avenue until it reached the temple, where They raised prayers for the health of the sick and the peace of the world.

In Valera there was also a procession

After six in the afternoon this Wednesday, 18 ecclesiastical parishes of the Valera municipality joined the procession of the Nazarene, from Bolívar de Valera avenue to the Doctor Pedro Emilio Carrillo University Hospital, where prayers were raised for the peace and health of the town.

The activity was organized by the Diocese of Trujillo with the support of the State Government. Likewise, the procession was accompanied by a large deployment of officials from the various security and prevention bodies of the entity as a measure of protection for the attendees.

In Trujillo it rained

In the Trujillo municipality, the rain prevented the parishioners from accompanying the Nazarene in procession from the Nuestra Señora de la Paz cathedral church; nevertheless they participated in the Holy Eucharist.

The parish priest of the cathedral church, priest Gustavo Godoy, explained that with faith, love and fervor the faithful devotees approached the colonial image of the Nazarene to give thanks for favors granted, to ask for health and peace in the world.

“Today the Catholic Christian people of Trujillo participated in the mass at five in the afternoon in the Holy Mother Cathedral Church, but due to the rain, they could not participate in the traditional procession where people, men and women, faithful devotees, young people and children they carry Jesus on their shoulders as a way of traveling that path to Calvary, where he was crucified for us; that path that Jesus traced, that story that he began to climb the cross and give his life for humanity ”, he expressed.

He recalled that the image of the Nazarene dates from the 17th century and every year it is venerated with faith and devotion by the Trujillo community.

“The image of Jesus of Nazareth that spends the night in the cathedral is a colonial image from the 17th century, with more than 300 years of history and tradition. It is revered by all the people of Trujillo with a very participative popular religiosity. There is a lot of faith, a lot of love, there is a lot of devotion, perhaps one of the most important devotions in the capital Trujillo after the revered image of Our Lady of Peace, patron saint of all Trujillo residents, is the image of Jesus of Nazareth,” he said.

Mrs. Nancy Peña, a resident of the Timirisis sector, was grateful to God and the Nazarene for the favors granted, while asking for the health and protection of her children and her entire family.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Dulce María Briceño from the El Tendal sector stated that every year she attends the procession of the Blessed Nazarene and asked for the cessation of covid-19 and for peace in the countries in conflict.

“Since I can remember I come every holy Wednesday to the mass and procession of the blessed image of the Nazarene. In the years due to the prevention of the pandemic, we greatly miss walking the streets of Trujillo next to the image of the saint, ”he exclaimed.

Finally, Father Gustavo Godoy indicated that for this Holy Thursday, at five in the afternoon, the solemnity of the institution of the Eucharist, washing of the feet and procession is planned; then, at seven o’clock at night, the adoration shifts to the Blessed Sacrament will begin. He invited the people of Trujillo and Venezuela to live this Holy Week with faith, devotion and love for Our Lord Jesus Christ.
