In Tunisia, an agreement with the IMF that does not solve the financial crisis

by time news

After lengthy negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Tunisia finally managed to reach a minimum agreement with the financial backer, reports the independent news site Business News. This is a four-year split financing arrangement under the Extended Fund Facility.

According to a press release issued by the IMF on October 15, the financing comes with a “Tunisian program supported by the IMF [qui] aims to restore macroeconomic stability, strengthen social safety nets and fiscal fairness, and accelerate reforms that foster an environment conducive to inclusive growth and sustainable job creation”.

It will however be necessary to wait until December for this agreement reached with the experts to be validated by the Board of Directors of the Fund. No euphoria, therefore, in the Tunisian media, even if this financial assistance is crucial in a country in the midst of a crisis.
