The Croatian Cycling Club participated in two events and won seven medals. The club’s announcement: “In Karyes, Laconia, our team this weekend with four athletes. Also present at Gerakas with Nikos Kastis at the Masters B’. A four-member delegation traveled to Karyes in Laconia to take part in the 2nd two-day youth cup which was organized at the same time as the international class C1 race and hosted several of the biggest names in international mtb as it had an international rating in the hunt for qualification for the Olympiad. Thus it became a pole of attraction for several national teams as well as professional athletes. Competitively, our athletes had the opportunity to compete on the same course, pass the same obstacles and understand where and how much they need to work to further develop their skills.
On the first day on Saturday, in xcc and xco on Sunday, our girls Angeliki Aleuraki and Andriana Samara did 1-2. Andriana’s comeback from the thumb injury that kept her off mtb since the beginning of the year was crowned with success. In the boys, Aleurakis, after almost two years of abstinence from mtb, with participation only in some local races, showed that he wants to return with appetite to the dirt and climbed to the second place of the podium on both days. Kostoglakis was far from his best self and came 4th on the first day and 3rd on the second.
Thus, Aleuraki kept the jersey of the leader in the women’s standings, while Samara rose to second place overall. Kostoglakis and Aleurakis moved up to positions 2-3 respectively, with Aleurakis, however, staying far behind the pioneer Fragiadakis as he did not compete in Salamina. However, the tournament still has three two-day matches with one of them taking place in Leros next month. The leader of each category will take part with the group of leaders that will emerge in the pan-European youth cup that will be held in Sweden in August.
