The Yalta authorities imposed a state of emergency due to flooding caused by heavy rains and closed the entrance to the city, the head of the city administration Yanina Pavlenko said on her Facebook blog. The water supply is also turned off. After a powerful night shower in Alupka, a mudflow came down the road, a transformer substation in Gaspra was flooded, and a pumping station in the Foros sanatorium stopped due to a power outage. According to the Yalta authorities, the city faces the threat of a blackout, as the water heats up the Krymenergo economic zone.

“From 10 o’clock in the morning, an emergency regime is introduced on the territory of Yalta. The amount of precipitation in 11 hours is more than 90 mm. Two rivers have overflowed their banks, passing through the city center, ”said Ms. Pavlenko.

She also said that the local authorities decided to close the entrance to the city, as uncontrolled water flows carry cars and people off the roads, and to organize evacuation points for people. In addition, the official called on the heads of all accommodation facilities located above the city center to provide maximum assistance.

In addition, the city authorities decided to temporarily turn off the water supply in the entire municipality and asked residents and guests of the region to stock up on water. According to preliminary data, they decided to take this step due to the convergence of mudflows, which made drinking water unusable.

As Kommersant was told in the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Crimea, rescuers have already evacuated seven people from flooding zones in Alupka and Yalta.

Earlier, powerful downpours hit the east of Crimea, flooding more than 300 private and apartment buildings in a number of settlements. Kerch suffered the most, where a two-month norm of precipitation fell during the night – about 80 mm. Due to bad weather, the central streets of the hero city and the hospital №1 named after Pirogov. Due to the flooding of pumping stations, about 20 thousand residents of the eastern part of the peninsula were left without drinking water.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Crimea, rescuers have already evacuated about 1400 people from flooded areas.
