Tyler Childers Releases Heartbreaking Music Video Featuring LGBTQ+ Love Story
Country singer Tyler Childers dropped the music video for his latest single “In Your Love” on Thursday, and it’s making waves for its beautiful and poignant portrayal of a romantic love story between two men. The video stars “Arrow” actor Colton Haynes and “You” actor James Scully.
The emotional clip begins with an older farmer finding a rare four-leaf clover in a field, triggering a flashback to his younger years when he worked in a coal mine. During this time, he meets another young man and the two instantly connect, embarking on secret picnics and stolen moments.
However, their romance is tragically interrupted when a fellow miner discovers them together and violently attacks one of them. Despite the adversity, one of the men, played by Colton Haynes, bravely defends his lover and fights back against the attackers.
As the video progresses, the idyllic country escape of the two lovers is tainted by illness. The heartbreaking finale sees one of the men dying in the arms of his partner on their porch. The video then returns to the elderly farmer, reminiscing on that same porch.
Tyler Childers, who is married to fellow singer Senora May, intentionally chose this subject matter for his music video, sending a powerful message about inclusivity in country music. The genre is currently at a crossroads, grappling with defining its identity and deciding how welcoming it wants to be to diverse voices.
“In Your Love” is the lead single from Childers’ upcoming sixth studio album, “Rustin’ in the Rain,” set to be released on September 8th. The emotional and thought-provoking video is already gaining widespread praise for its moving portrayal of LGBTQ+ love in a genre that is traditionally known for its conservative values.
