UEFA against the Super League, new episode. The body responsible for European football continues its war against the Super League project, down to the details of press releases.

According to information from British media The TimesUEFA would have demanded that the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) modify “inaccurate” and “contrary to the decision” statements in its press release reporting the decree of December 21 which gave rise to the the idea that a Super League was possible again.

“Faithfully reflect the Court’s judgment”

According to UEFA, the elements present in the press release suggested that the creation of the new European competition was authorized and that UEFA and FIFA had been targeted and penalized because of an offense linked to “a dominant position” . However, these points were not addressed in the court decision, while the press releases should “at least faithfully reflect the real content of the judgment”, according to the court.

A point of view similar to that of the European Club Association led by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. “The ruling does not support or approve any Super League project,” explained the PSG boss.

“We therefore ask you to ensure that the press release is modified in order to faithfully reflect the Court’s judgment,” UEFA is said to have indicated in a letter to the CJEU of which The Times was aware.

“While we understand that press releases are not binding on the court, they are the center of media attention in already high-profile cases (…) They also remain on the Court’s website in the long term. Furthermore, in a case as high profile as this one, they attract a lot of attention (which is also their goal) and influence the way in which the case is perceived,” justifies the European football body. The Court of Justice of the European Union has not yet responded officially.

For the moment, only three clubs have shown themselves favorable to the project: FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Napoli.
