Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI by the Archives of Morocco, on the occasion of National Archives Day, this exhibition highlights the archives of this eminent philosopher, writer and intellectual, who was proud of his Moroccanness and its plural identity.

The exhibition also offers the opportunity to highlight the cultural, ethnic and spiritual diversity of Moroccan identity, embodied by Edmond Amran El Maleh (1917-2010).

In a statement to the press on this occasion, Mr. André Azoulay, Advisor to HM the King, underlined that this intellectual was one of the actors of Morocco in the 20th and early 21st centuries, noting that his thought continues to nourish the modernity of social relations and Moroccan society.

“Edmond is unique in all respects, his life, which was marked by his philosophical, spiritual and ideological choices, remains exceptionally current. When we reread his texts and we see the quality of the works he left us, it “is a particularly precious story,” noted Mr. Azoulay.

The director of the Institution Archives of Morocco, Jamaa Baida, for his part, indicated that this exhibition aims to make this unique personality of the academic world known to all citizens and particularly young people, noting that El Maleh “has, throughout his life, believed in his Moroccan belonging, and in the many tributaries of his identity, Amazigh, Arab, Jewish and Islamic”.

He also underlined that the theme of “Tamghrabit”, chosen as part of the celebration of National Archives Day, established in 2013, aims to highlight the creative, cultural and human experience of this outstanding personality.

A scientific conference was also organized alongside this exhibition, where several intellectuals highlighted different aspects of the career and work of Edmond Amran El Maleh and his multiple contributions to the enrichment of the cultural field and literary, as well as his numerous struggles for just causes.
