The 210 councilors who won the urban local body elections in Villupuram district were sworn in yesterday.

Urban local body elections for corporations, municipalities and municipalities in Tamil Nadu were held on the 19th of last month. Out of a total of 210 councilor posts, one in Vikravandi municipality and one in Arakandanalur municipality have already been elected without contest in the elections for 3 municipalities and 7 municipalities in Villupuram district.
Based on this, elections were held for 102 city council ward posts in 3 municipalities and 106 ward member posts in 7 municipalities in the district. At the end of the count, the DMK won 210 seats. In 130 places, the AIADMK In all 33 seats, the BJP won. In 6 seats, the Congress in 5 seats, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 2 seats and the Marxist Communist Party in one seat. In one place, the Mother People’s Progressive Association won in one place. In addition, 31 of the independent contestants won.
Inauguration of Councilors
The inauguration ceremony of the 210 councilors who won the urban local government elections was held at the respective municipal offices yesterday.
25 councilors from DMK, 7 councilors from DMK, 2 councilors from BJP, 2 councilors from Congress party and Liberation Leopards were present at the function held at Villupuram Municipal Office. Mohan, 42 ward councilors, district election officer and collector, and Surendrashah, the municipal election officer, were sworn in as 2 councilors from the party, one councilor from the Humanitarian People’s Party and 3 independent councilors.
Advice from Minister Ponmudi
Higher Education Minister Ponmudi, Durai Ravikumar MP, MLAs Pukahendi, Dr. Lakshmanan, District Panchayat Chairman Jayachandran and many others were present at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ponmudi said that all the newly appointed city councilors should work with a sense of commitment to implement the government’s plans. He said the councilors should give their full cooperation to carry out all the projects for the betterment of Villupuram town.
Tindivanam-Kottakkuppam
23 DMK at a function held in Tindivanam municipality. Councilors, 4 A.D.M.K. Councilors, 2 P.M.K. 33 ward councilors were sworn in as councilors, one Liberation Tigers of Tamil Nadu party councilor and 3 independent councilors in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Saundarajan. The event was attended by many including Villupuram MP Ravi Kumar and District Panchayat Committee Deputy Chairperson Sheila Devi.
The ceremony was held at the Kottakkuppam Municipal Office. Councilors, 3 A.D.M.K. Councilors, a P.M.K. A total of 27 councilors were sworn in as councilors and 6 as independent councilors in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Banumati.
Ginger-Anantapur
17 DMK at the inauguration ceremony held at the Ginger Municipality office. Councilors, an A.D.M.K. A total of 18 ward councilors were sworn in as councilors in the presence of Minister Ginger Mastan and Municipal Executive Officer Ramalingam. Many people including Ginger Union Committee Chairman Vijayakumar were present.
9 DMK at the inauguration ceremony held at Anantapuram Municipality in the presence of Municipal Executive Officer Malar. Councilors, 5 A.D.M.K. Councilors, a total of 15 ward councilors were elected as an independent councilor. It was attended by many, including officials.
Wickravandi-Marakkanam
12 DMK for the ceremony held at the Wickravandi Municipal Office. Councilors, 3 A.D.M.K. 15 Ward Councilors were sworn in as Councilors in the presence of Executive Officer Annathurai. The function was attended by many including Pukhalendi MLA and election observer Ramanan.
The ceremony was held at the Marakkanam Municipal Office at 8 p.m. Councilors, 4 A.D.M.K. Councilors, a P.M.K. Councilor, 19 Independent Councilors as 5 Independent Councilors were sworn in in the presence of Executive Officer Thiagarajan and Election Officer Manivasakam.
Arakandanallur
6 DMK at a function held at Arakandanalur Municipality office. Councilors, 4 A.D.M.K. A total of 12 ward councilors were sworn in as councilors, one Congress councilor and one independent councilor in the presence of Minister Ponmudi and Executive Officer Murugan. It was attended by many, including officials.
9 DMK at a function held at the Thiruvennallur Municipal Corporation office. Councilors, 6 Independent Councilors, 15 Ward Councilors were sworn in in the presence of Minister Ponmudi, Collector Mohan Executive Officer Anandan and Union Committee Chairman Omsiva Sakthi Vail.
Valavanur
8 DMK in Valavanur municipality. Councilors, 2 AIADMK Councilors, 1 Congress Councilor, 1 DMK Councilor, 1 AIADMK A total of 15 councilors were sworn in as councilors and 2 independent councilors in the presence of Lakshmanan MLA and Executive Officer Sheikh Latdeep.
This will be followed tomorrow (Friday) by an election for the post of Chairman of Municipalities and Municipalities and an election for the post of Vice-Chairman in the afternoon.
