The inauguration of this new infrastructure dedicated to the development of the red meat sector in the region, which took place in the presence of the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region and Governor of the Prefecture of Rabat, the President of the Council of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, the President of the Regional Chamber of Agriculture and professionals in the sector, is part of the improvement and modernization of the distribution channels of the Regional Agricultural Plan of the Generation Green strategy, indicates a press release from the ministry.
Based in the territorial commune of Bouknadel on an area of 4 hectares, including 15,000 m2 covered, this new slaughterhouse has mobilized a total budget of 267 million dirhams, said the same source, stressing that this mega project aims to meet the growing needs of the populations of the prefectures of Rabat-Salé and Skhirat-Témara in terms of processing and marketing of red meats and animal products meeting health standards.
The result of close collaboration between the various local entities and institutional partners, this new slaughterhouse reflects the involvement and commitment of local authorities and institutional partners to support the economic and agricultural development of the prefectures of Rabat, Salé and Skhirat-Témara.
The capacity of the new slaughterhouse in the region is estimated at 30,000 tonnes per year (500 cattle and 1,000 sheep per day, as well as dromedaries), making it an important infrastructure for the preparation and marketing of red meats and the supply of raw materials to regional and national agri-food industries.
The new slaughterhouse has cold rooms, an animal housing area, new generation slaughter lines and facilities, administrative areas, cafes and restaurants, as well as a wastewater treatment plant, the statement said.
Likewise, this regional slaughterhouse has a blood treatment station, the first of its kind, which meets the standards and requirements in force, noted the same source, specifying that the trucks are equipped to transport meat while respecting the cold chain.
In addition, the new “regional slaughterhouses” operate a digital system that allows the identification and monitoring of livestock from the stables to the marketing of meat and by-products, including slaughter, which ensures compliance with the standards of the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) throughout the chain and provides the consumer with the necessary information.
The new regional slaughterhouse will be fully operational in the coming days and will be managed by the Local Development Company (SDL) “Rabat Salé Témara Prestations et Développement”.
The Regional Agricultural Plan of the Generation Green strategy aims to achieve a production of 100,000 tonnes of red meat per year by 2030, the creation of 5 approved slaughterhouses, in accordance with health safety standards, 6 model livestock markets as well as other projects within the framework of aggregation and public-private partnership, allowing better control and integration of the different links in the chain, from producer to consumer.
The ministry adopts this strategy in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior and in perfect coordination and harmony with professionals within the framework of the program contract signed with the Interprofessional Federation of Red Meats (FIVIAR), to meet the growing needs of the population of the prefectures of Rabat, Salé and Skhirat-Témara in terms of preparation and marketing of red meats in accordance with the health standards in force, recalls the press release.
