A journey by the Locus Iste association to discover the “painter” Annella De Rosa, Saturday 28 January at 10.45 am

NAPLES – The Locus Iste association offers a guided tour of the Church of the Pietà dei Turchini. Originally consecrated with the name of Church of Santa Maria dell’Incoronatella in the second half of the 16th century, it later assumed the denomination Pietà dei Turchini from the color of the clothes worn by the orphans who were hosted there and initiated into music in the Conservatory annexed to the orphanage and to the church itself.

Founded in 1583 by some confrati called Bianchi dell’Incoronatella, the Conservatory of Santa Maria della Pietà, with initial headquarters in Rua Catalana, in 1623 already housed more than a hundred beggar children and orphans preparing them to become the best musicians and singers in town. But at the time of its full splendour, the Church of the Pietà dei Turchini also collected the most important Neapolitan painters of the seventeenth century, whose masterpieces wind beautiful from the chapels to the bright altar, from Battistello Caracciolo to Filippo Vitale, from Juan Do to Annella De Rosa, from Andrea Vaccaro to Luca Giordano.

«The color blue will often return in this church and in this visit. Ultramarine like the dress of Sant’Anna welcoming Mary who has just come into the world, painted by the brush of chat “painter” Annella De Rosa. Deep blue like the swollen stole of the Madonna who unties the knots of everyone’s problems, who arrived in Naples from the Bavarian city of Augsburg».

Appointment: Saturday 28 January at 10:45 in via Agostino Depretis 86. Reservations: 3472374210 or [email protected]. Complete information on all guided tours is on the website www.locusisteblog.wordpress.com.
