Incentives for farmers producing quality seeds

It was informed in the training camp that farmers who produce and supply quality seeds will be given an incentive of Rs.25 to Rs.30 per kg.

Training camp related to setting up of seed farm and production of quality seed was held for farmers under Atma scheme on behalf of Dindigul district agriculture and welfare department.

Assistant Director of Agriculture V. Nagendran presided over this training camp. Then he said:

Farmers can benefit by setting up seed farms in crops such as groundnut, gram, pulses, rice, corn, rye and distributing the produced seeds to agricultural extension centers. The seeds procured by the government are given a fair price. Also, farmers who produce seeds are given an incentive of Rs.25 to Rs.30 per kg.

Farmers have to register the seed farm with the Seed Certification Department and follow the procedures to follow.

District Seed Researcher Kumaravel then said:

Use of quality seeds is ensured as per seed laws. If found to be selling substandard seeds, action is taken against the shops concerned. From time to time seed samples sold not only in private shops but also in government seed warehouses are taken and their germination capacity, external cleanliness and internal cleanliness etc. are examined. Farmers should come forward to produce and supply quality seeds, he said.

Agriculture Officer Hassana, Regional Assistant Seed Officers Rajagopal, Subparamani, Assistant Technical Managers Gopi, Jayamurugan and others participated in the camp.
