Incheon International Airport Corporation is considering filing a complaint against the private security company of actor Byun Woo-seok, which caused controversy over ‘excessive security’.

On the 17th, the construction company announced that it plans to closely cooperate with relevant organizations to consider legal action regarding the unauthorized actions of (actor Byun Woo-seok)’s security company.

On the 12th, Byun Woo-seok was swarmed by fans as he left Incheon Airport to attend an Asian fan meeting tour in Hong Kong. Byun Woo-seok entered the landside through Gate 2 on the 3rd floor of the departure hall at Terminal 2 and arrived at the Korean Air Prestige Class Lounge in the duty-free area.

During this process, Byun Woo-seok’s private security guards were reported to have controlled the airport gate, flashed powerful flashlights at fans taking pictures, and even inspected the airline tickets of passengers using the airport.

A construction official told Donga.com over the phone, “We are actively responding to the illegal activities of celebrities’ private security companies and considering legal action against them to ensure the safety of airport users,” adding, “We are continuously discussing matters related to the accusation with the relevant organizations.”

Incheon International Airport Corporation plans to examine whether the security company’s closure of the landside (general area) entrance and exit gate and inspection of airline tickets constitute abuse of authority or coercion through legal review. If it determines that there is suspicion, it will file a complaint.

On this day, Incheon Airport Police Department announced that they are investigating three bodyguards belonging to Byun Woo-seok’s private security company on charges of assault, coercion, and obstruction of business.

Police are focusing on whether there was any violence in the process in which private security guards flashed powerful flashlights at fans who had gathered to see Byun Woo-seok.

They also plan to focus on investigating illegal elements, such as private security guards searching passengers’ airline tickets and blocking airport gates, which are public facilities.

A police official said, “Police officers must also reveal their own identities before checking IDs,” and “We plan to investigate the act of private security guards, not police officers, randomly checking passengers’ airline tickets and flashing their cameras at fans who gathered to see Byun Woo-seok.”

Police are reviewing whether charges of assault and coercion can be applied to Mr. Byun’s private bodyguards based on airport closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
