The most affected travelers will be fully compensated. The SNCF will compensate up to 100% of the ticket price to travelers who suffered a delay of more than 4 hours on Friday evening, Le Parisien learned on Monday, confirming information from RTL.

Normally, SNCF’s “G 30” guarantee provides for reimbursement of a maximum of 75% of the ticket price, when a train is more than 3 hours late. In view of the exceptional circumstances of this breakdown, the reimbursement conditions have been reviewed in favor of travellers.

Traffic interrupted for 1h30

Dozens of trains were blocked departing from and arriving at the Paris station due to an incident caused by the weather. An electrical installation south of Paris, in Massy (Essonne), was hit by lightning in the afternoon. This caused major signaling problems that halted all traffic from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., before traffic gradually resumed. The breakdown could not be definitively resolved until around 7:30 p.m.

The entire Atlantic line has thus suffered significant delays, to Rennes, Nantes, Toulouse, Bordeaux or even Brest. As well as platform travelers whose trains could not leave the station, others were stuck on the tracks en route to their destination when the incident occurred.

When traffic was able to resume, it was initially impossible to use the high-speed lines. The trains had to be diverted to the “conventional” lines, which caused numerous lengthenings of the journey time, in addition to the delay in the station.
