Increase in stroke in children after corona: Study- Dinamani

by time news

Washington: According to a small study conducted in the US, children may be at increased risk of stroke after corona infection.

In a research paper published this week in the journal Pediatric Neurology, they identified 16 patients with ischemic stroke between March 2020 and June 2021 using medical codes.

Overall, while children have a relatively low risk of stroke, this risk has become a reality after Covid-19, said the lead author of the pediatric neurology study at the University of Utah Health. Meanwhile, over the past five years, the number of children with strokes has averaged 4 per year.

The 2021 International Study of Children showed no increased risk of stroke in infected children. This claim is said to contradict the findings of an international study.

Of the 16 children in the study, most had suffered a stroke when they left the hospital. However, the new study highlights the need for early detection of stroke symptoms, the researchers said.
