Authorities in Los Angeles announced Thursday that at least five people were killed in massive forest fires that broke out on the outskirts of the city and are still out of control and spreading rapidly, warning that the toll is likely to rise.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said, “Earlier today, we announced two deaths, unfortunately. The number has risen to five as we continue to make progress in this area.”
He added, “Remember that the situation is still very volatile, and the fire is not contained at all. I don’t think the situation will be fine.”
These massive fires, driven by strong winds, destroyed more than 1,500 buildings and forced more than 100,000 people to evacuate their homes.
Outgoing US President Joe Biden has canceled a planned trip to Italy. With the aim of focusing on efforts to fight the raging fires around Los Angeles, according to what the White House announced yesterday, Wednesday.
