Medical Genome Center Facebook page Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital Mahidol University Post a picture with content to educate about smallpox. The entire genome of the smallpox virus genes from many countries around the world has been gradually uploaded to the global microbial genome database “GISAID”. Together with epidemiological data, it was found that (see the number in the illustration)

(1) Five years ago (2017/2017), there was an unusual outbreak of smallpox in Nigeria. The first case was an 11-year-old boy with a skin lesion in September 2017. It was an animal-to-human transmission. By spreading to 12 other people, the disease was under control.

(2) From 2018/2018 to 2022, the number of smallpox cases in Nigeria continues to increase, reaching more than 500 (an international alarm that has been overlooked).

Note: The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) stated that “Between September 2017 and April 30, 2022, there were 558 confirmed cases and 8 deaths from 22 states.” In 2022 alone, there will not be an outbreak of the smallpox virus in Nigeria.”

(3) In 2018/2018, smallpox infection was detected in Europe. United Kingdom and Israel from those traveling from Nigeria.

(4) In 2019/2019, Singapore was infected by people traveling from Nigeria.

(5) In 2022/2022, two monkey pox virus outbreaks (clade) were found in the United States at the same time.

a. The first strain in 2021 and 2022 is similar to the strain in Nigeria in 2017.

b. The second strain was found in 2022. Its genome is similar to the strain currently infested in Europe. The UK, France and Israel saw two strains of the outbreak. Same but different year (see map)

(6) The outbreak of the smallpox virus has continued to occur, with more than 1,000 people infected, most of them in Europe. There are more than 40 mutations in the original monkeypox virus.
