When a country goes through the harsh economic crisis that Cuba is currently experiencing, the loss of values becomes one of the elements that emerge on a daily basis. Increased violence, robberies, the establishment of a kind of “every man for himself” dictate the guidelines of society. And there are plenty of examples.

One of the most recent has left the inhabitants of the city of Santa Clara dumbfounded. That city just a few weeks ago was the protagonist of the celebrations for the central anniversary of Inder and, as is customary in these cases, some facilities for the practice of the sport were inaugurated or renovated.

The “Natilla Jiménez” baseball team, located near the Augusto César Sandino stadium, had been one of the great beneficiaries. Not only did they carry out extensive capital repairs to the emblematic playground, they also equipped it with lighting for night games, making it the only one of its kind on the entire island.

There, the “Bombarderitos del Centro” reaped part of the successes that led them to the Cuban Little League crown at the end of last month, to unleash the joy of an entire city that always accompanied its little players.

However, now an act of vandalism has overshadowed these celebrations, since in recent days it emerged that part of the LED lights installed in the towers had been stolen due to the lack of protection in that area. For this reason, the territory’s authorities decided to protect the remaining lights until further notice.

A Facebook post from the Santa Clara Deportiva portal indicates that this “urgent measure” by Inder from Villa Clara also responds to the difficult energy situation in the country at present, where nighttime activities should not be carried out for the moment.

The text adds that the lights will be installed soon when the system of independent photovoltaic cells of the National Electric System is ready and security and protection measures are redoubled to avoid criminal acts.

Cuban society has regressed a lot in environments with so many deficiencies for events of this type to occur freely. In this way, the “Natilla Jiménez” barely lasted a few days as the only children’s stadium in the country where night games could be held. Now the question is how long it will be until it is again.
