Cost reduction

Braakman: “The IND may think, we can figure it out ourselves, we don’t need such an expensive report.” The costs for an investigation by the NIFP and NFI are EUR 8,991 and EUR 5,754 respectively. But, says Kors, it would “in many cases be cost-effective to figure it out and then make the right decision in one go”.

If the IND decides not to request a medical examination, an asylum seeker can also do this himself via a lawyer at IMMO. But, explains Elsbeth Kors: “Asylum seekers usually do not have the money to apply for this from official bodies.” The independent IMMO offers this assistance pro bono and is financed by funds. IMMO receives approximately one hundred to one hundred and fifty applications per year. Kors: “We think that’s the tip of the iceberg.”
