Rajkot: Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj is surprised that on Saturday, on the third day of the third Test match, England’s experienced batsman Joe Root, after spending a lot of time at the crease, played a ‘reverse ramp’ shot against Jasprit Bumrah and lost his wicket. Root had spent almost an hour at the crease and was playing on 18 runs. However, like other batsmen of the team, he was struggling to score runs fast.
To increase his strike rate, he tried to play a ‘reverse ramp’ shot from above the slip against Bumrah but was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal at second slip. England could not even add 100 runs to their total after their partnership with Ben Duckett (153), who scored a century for the team, was broken.
Siraj’s statement on Root’s strange shot
England’s first innings was all out for 319 runs, giving India a lead of 126 runs. Siraj said in the press conference after the match, ‘Root’s partnership with Ben Duckett was increasing, if he had played a little more it would have been difficult for us. But suddenly he played the kind of shot which he does not play. ‘ He said, ‘It was beneficial for us though. After this, there was a good partnership between Ben Stokes and Ben Fox but Stokes played such an aggressive shot and we were successful in making a comeback in the match.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was highly appreciated
Siraj, who took four wickets in this match, praised Jaiswal (retired hurt on 104 runs) who scored a century in India’s second innings. He said, ‘The way he is batting, his confidence is very high. He is not looking back. The message from the team to him is that he should continue performing the way he is performing.
Rohit Sharma scored the 11th century of his test career, defeated the English bowlers a lot.
He said, ‘We are thinking of taking the match as far as possible so that we (bowlers) also get a chance to freshen up. We are bowling long spells and fielding. The fresher we remain, the more emphasis we will be able to put in the second innings.
Spinners will do wonders in the fourth innings – Siraj
The spinners have not got success so far from the pitch at Niranjan Shah Stadium but Siraj said that they will make an impact. He said, ‘Spinners will obviously be effective in the fourth innings because the ball is turning. All six balls are not taking turn but some balls are taking more turn. If you bowl patiently, you can take wickets. This fast bowler said that in the absence of off-spinner R Ashwin, other bowlers will have to bowl for a long time. Ashwin has withdrawn from the test due to a medical emergency in the family. Siraj said, ‘When we came to know in the morning that Ashwin was not our brother, more responsibility fell on us. Rohit bhai told us that we have to bowl long spells and I like to bowl long spells.
