Pallikal: India has made a winning start under the leadership of the new coach-captain pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir. In the first match of the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka, Team India won the match by 43 runs. Batting first after losing the toss, India scored a huge score of 213 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, thanks to captain Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive innings of 58 runs in 26 balls. In response, Sri Lanka fought with full strength, but in the last overs its batsmen could not withstand the pressure and were all out for 170 runs in 19.2 overs. Riyan Parag took three wickets giving only five runs in 1.2 overs. Now the second match of the series will be played on the same ground on Sunday i.e. tomorrow at 7 pm.

Surya’s stormy fifty as soon as he became the captain
After a good start by openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (40 runs) and Shubman Gill (34 runs), Suryakumar (26 balls, eight fours, two sixes) and wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant (49 runs) shared a 76-run partnership for the third wicket to take India to a strong score. After being made the permanent captain of India’s T20 captain, Suryakumar hit eight fours and two sixes in his 26-ball innings in his first match. During this, he scored his 20th half-century.

74 run opening partnership between Yashasvi-Gill
After being invited to bat, Jaiswal and Shubman Gill (16 balls, six fours, one six) shared a 74-run partnership in six overs for the first wicket. Gill was dismissed on the last ball of the powerplay. Wanindu Hasaranga came out to bowl his first over and Jaiswal (21 balls, five fours, two sixes) was stumped on his googly. The score became 74 runs for two wickets. Sri Lanka gave India double blows by dismissing both of them on this score. Rishabh Pant (33 balls, six fours, one six), who came at number four, had some trouble initially, but after that he reached close to his half-century. For Sri Lanka, Mathisha Pathirana took four wickets while Madushanka, Asitha Fernando and Hasaranga took one wicket each.

Nissanka’s 79 run innings went in vain

In reply to the huge score of 214 runs, Sri Lanka started off with a bang. There was an 84-run partnership for the first wicket between Pathum Nissanka (79 off 48 balls) and Kusal Mendis (45 off 27 balls). Shot making seemed so easy that the score seemed small. In the 15th over, Sri Lanka had scored 149 runs for the loss of three wickets, but after that the batting collapsed like a pack of cards. Sri Lanka’s last nine wickets were spent in scoring 30 runs.
