Sri Lanka toss in the first match of the T20 Series (1st T20I) between India and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to field. India will make six changes from their last match against the West Indies. When Sanju Samson returns to the final XI, all-rounder Deepak Hooda will make his T20I debut for India.

Captain Rohit Sharma has said that Rituraj Gaikwad, who opened the innings for India in the last match, has been ruled out due to injury. Ravidnra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah have returned to the Indian team after missing the series against the West Indies due to injuries. Apart from them, Yusvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who were out in the last match, have returned to the final XI.

Sri Lanka have made two changes to their squad for the last T20I against Australia. Mahesh Theekshana and Kushal Mendis were replaced by Dinesh Chandimal and Jeffrey Wandersey.
