Deep connection with the country’s independence
The original tricolor barfi of Banaras was also called ‘Rashtriya Barfi’. This barfi was first made in a small sweet shop Ram Bhandar. The establishment of the sweet shop named Ram Bhandar is believed to be around 1850.
According to the Times of India report, during the Quit India Movement, Mahatma Gandhi had given the call of ‘Do or Die’. After this, Ram Bhandar introduced this sweet for the first time after 1942.
Spreading the spirit of patriotism through sweets
According to the information, the reason behind making this sweet was to spread the message of patriotism and to send secret messages between the common people and the freedom fighters. During the movement, the tricolour barfi was made for secret meetings of the revolutionaries and to give secret information. It is also said that when the British had banned carrying the Indian tricolour, the revolutionaries used to carry this tricolour barfi in their hands.
Ingredients to make Tricolour Barfi
People now also know the tricolour barfi as tricolour barfi. To make it, you will need 3 cups of milk, one cup of milk powder, one cup of powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder. Apart from this, green food colour and saffron food colour will be needed to add colour.
How to make Tricolor Barfi
First of all, heat a pan on medium flame and add ghee and melt it. Then boil it well after adding milk and add milk powder and mix it. Now mix sugar powder and cook this mixture on low flame until ghee starts appearing separately. Then add cardamom powder and mix it well. After turning off the gas, take out the mixture in a bowl and keep it aside to cool.
This is how you will get three colors
When this mixture cools down a bit, divide it into three parts. Now add green food colour to one part and saffron food colour to the other part and mix well. After this, apply ghee on a tray and grease it. Take out the green food colour part in the tray and spread it well, put the white part on top of the green mixture and spread it as well and finally put the saffron coloured part and spread it. Now you can cut the barfi in desired shape and serve it.
