Bangladesh accuses India of causing floods
Just before this meeting, Mohammad Yunus Sarkar had accused India of flooding the eastern districts of Bangladesh. Nahid Islam, Information and Broadcasting Advisor in the Yunus Sarkar, said that India has behaved inhumanly by releasing water without prior warning. However, the Indian Foreign Ministry denied reports of flooding in the eastern districts of Bangladesh due to the opening of the Dumbur Dam in Tripura. West Tripura and parts of Bangladesh have been flooded due to rains in the last few days and this is largely responsible for the flooding in the lower areas of Bangladesh.
How is the situation in Bangladesh?
Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Shafiqul Alam, while talking to the media at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, said that the current situation in the country is almost normal, but some challenges still exist. He said that after bringing deep reforms in the violence-hit country, free and fair elections will be held. When Alam was asked what is the current situation in Bangladesh and is it becoming normal? In response, he said, “Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is telling foreign journalists that you should visit all the places like rural areas or cities or industrial areas outside Dhaka, you see the situation yourself and decide whether it is normal or not.”
Will Bangladesh have free and fair elections?
The press secretary said, “We believe the situation is normal… there are some challenges.” He said that all police stations have reopened and work is going on there again. We believe that this (situation) is almost normal. On being asked about the election, the press secretary said that after deep reforms are done in Bangladesh, free and fair elections will be held. On August 5, after unprecedented anti-government protests in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country, while the protesters called the fall of the government and her departure as Vijay Diwas.
