Guyana: India won the warm-up match ahead of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The Indian youth team thrashed the mighty Australia by nine wickets. Harnoor Singh’s unbeaten century gave India an easy victory. Australia were all out for 268 in 49.2 overs and India were 269 for one in 47.3 overs.
The bowlers confirmed the decision of Indian captain Yash Dhul, who won the toss and elected to field. The Indian bowlers were able to reduce the strong Australian batting line-up to 268 runs. Despite scoring a century, skipper Cooper Connolly failed to get Australia to a big score. Cooper hit 117 off 125 balls with 14 fours and four sixes. Ravikumar took four wickets while Raj Bawa took three wickets for India.
Batting on 269, India reached the target easily. The Indian opener was led by Harnoor and Sheikh Rashid, who later combined for a quick loss of opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who scored 27 runs.
Harnoor, who was unbeaten on 100 off 108 balls, hit 16 fours. Sheikh Rashid remained unbeaten on 72.
Both retired because it was a training match. Yash Dhul and Dinesh Bana led the team to victory. Yash was unbeaten on 50 and Bana on two.
The Under-19 World Cup kicks off on Friday. The West Indies will face Australia in the first match. India’s first match in Group B will be against South Africa on January 15. The other teams in the group are Ireland and Uganda.
