The second phase of the legislative elections in Jammu and Kashmir in India began today, Wednesday, with the participation of about 55 percent of the voters, in which 2.5 million people have the right to vote to decide the fate of 239 candidates in 26 seats .

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah urged voters to turn out in large numbers; To strengthen democracy and free Jammu and Kashmir from terrorism and corruption.
It is the only state with a Muslim majority witnessing the second phase of the legislative elections for the first time after the Indian government led by Modi in 2019 abolished Article (370) of the Constitution of India, which gave the Indian part of ( Jammu and Kashmir) limited autonomy and special status.
The major contenders at this stage are Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, National Congress Party Vice President Omar Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party Chairman Ravinder Raina, State Congress Committee Chairman Tariq Hameed Kara, and Chairman of the Apni Party, Altaf Bukhari.
The first phase of the legislative elections took place on September 18 and saw the participation of about 62 percent of the voters in the voting. The third and final phase is to take place on the first of October next, and the result on the 8th of the same month.
