World famous writer Salman Rushdie (age 75) has been stabbed. Salman Rushdie, who participated in a program in New York City, USA, was giving a lecture, when a person suddenly got on the stage and stabbed Salman with a knife. In this, Salman’s neck got seriously injured.
Salman, who was seriously injured in the stabbing attack, is currently undergoing intensive treatment. Police have arrested the man who attacked Salman Rushdie. The arrested person has been identified as 24-year-old Hadi Mudar.
Born in Mumbai, India, Salman Rushdie belonged to the Muslim faith. He settled in England at an early age. Salman, who is a citizen of England, has been living in that country and the United States for many years.
Salman Rushdie won the 1981 Booker Prize for Best Writer in the World for his book Midnight’s Children.
Meanwhile, Salman Rushdie’s 1988 book The Buddha caused a great controversy at the global level. Islamic countries have banned the book ‘The Satanic Verses’ because it criticizes the Messenger of God and the book of Islam. India is the first country to ban this book. This book is still banned in India.
Salman Rushdie faced strong opposition in many Islamic countries saying that this book was meant to criticize/make fun of the Islamic religion and the Messenger of God. In many countries, attacks were staged on the translators of the book and Salman Rushdie’s assistants. There were also casualties in these incidents.
In 1989, the president of Iran, Abdullah Ruhollah Khemoni, announced a bounty on Salman Rushdie’s head for publishing the book ‘The Sunni Verses’ which insulted Islam. He announced a reward of 3 million US dollars for Salman’s killer.
However, Iran officially backtracked on its announcement after the death of Abdullah Ruhollah Kemeoni. But there was a threat to Salman Rushdie’s life. Various attempts were made to kill him.
After this he was given protection. Yesterday’s attack in New York with the intention of killing Salman Rushdie, who is living in the United States, has caused great shocks in the world.
