India’s invitation was made “on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the strategic partnership” between India and France, the Ministry of the Armed Forces announced in early July.

India, represented by its Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, was this year the guest of honor at the traditional July 14 military parade. It was an opportunity for the executive to celebrate the collaboration between Paris and New Delhi in the fields of defence, civil nuclear power and space.

The fifth largest economic power in the world is however singled out by many associative and political actors, who have denounced its “autocratization” for several years.

The “largest democracy in the world” has nevertheless managed to become an essential player in the international game: it is the partner of Westerners in the Indo-Pacific, the rival of China in Asia; it is also close to Russia – which it did not condemn for the invasion of Ukraine.
