The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is discussing increasing match fees as well as providing incentives to attract cricketers to red-ball cricket. At a time when the BCCI has started discussing the decision, players like Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are prioritizing preparing for the IPL rather than playing domestic cricket.

Despite BCCI Secretary Jai Sahar’s warning, several Indian cricketers are gearing up for the franchise league by ignoring the red-ball game. However, apart from increasing the salary and incentives, the issue of exclusion from the central contract of the players who show reluctance to play red ball cricket has also been discussed.

In this regard, a BCCI official said, ‘For example, if a player plays all the Test series in a calendar year, he will be rewarded separately in addition to the renewal of the central contract. The purpose of doing this is to attract cricketers to red ball cricket. By doing that, young cricketers will have a different interest in playing Test cricket.’

Currently, players get Rs 1.5 lakh for Tests, Rs. 6 lakhs for ODIs and Rs. 3 lakhs for T20s. Apart from this, additional incentives will also be given to cricketers who have played for India in all Test series.

In this regard BCCI will model a new wage structure. Especially after the IPL. There will be a framework for increasing allowances and incentives for tests.
