India won the first Test by 113 runs at Centurion, while the hosts returned with a seven – wicket victory in Johannesburg. It was India’s best chance to win their maiden series in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Indian Test captain Virat Kohli said the team had failed to capitalize on the crucial stages of progress. In some sessions, India lost wickets close to home. “It simply came to our notice then. I was disappointed when I failed to seize the opportunity. ” Addressing a post-match press conference, Kohli said:

Kohli said South Africa had chased well in the last two Tests, explaining the reasons behind the series defeat. “Our bowling power is different from theirs. They grew up on these pitches. They know in which areas to throw the ball. They did it consistently. We tried to focus on our strengths, but somehow it did not happen here, ”Kohli added.

The skipper praised wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant for his unbeaten century in the third Test. “Mistakes happen, but he learned from them. He is a special genius and it was a special innings, ”said Kohli. Asked if some senior players would be dropped from the squad for their poor performance, Kohli said: “We can’t say right now if there will be any changes in the team or what kind of changes will happen, but we need to think about it,” he said.
