The Indian government has issued a directive to the state and union territories to beef up security for “high-profile individuals under threat” in the wake of the recent assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, The Indian Express reported, Day.Az reports, citing TASS.

The directive stresses the need for increased vigilance and protection, especially during public events such as rallies and outdoor meetings.

According to the publication, the central government’s directive outlines three main areas that need to be addressed: physical security measures, technical surveillance and emergency response training, and the crucial role of personal security personnel.

Physical security measures include strict access control to venues, comprehensive screening of people, and ensuring that only authorized personnel are in close proximity to the VIP. Event venues should be thoroughly screened by security personnel. High-rise buildings and other vantage points that provide a direct line of sight to the VIP should be secured.

The government also stressed the importance of preparing for possible emergencies to ensure immediate cover for a high-ranking person, rapid neutralisation of threats and rapid evacuation to a safe place or hospital, the directive said.
