India will host a session of the International Olympic Committee next year. The announcement is an inspiration to India’s bid to host the Olympics. The announcement came at the 139th IOC session of the Winter Olympics in Beijing. India is hosting the 2023 IOC Session for the first time in four decades. India last hosted the IOC in 1983. The meeting will be held in 2023 at the Geo World Convention Center in Mumbai.

IOC member Nita Ambani said the opportunity to host the International Olympic Committee session was a turning point in India’s Olympic dream.
The decision was taken unanimously at the annual meeting of the IOC, which has 101 voting members and 45 honorary members.

Nita Ambani is the first woman to be elected as an IOC member from India. The Indian delegation, which included Narinder Batra, Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Thakur and India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra, attended the IOC session in Beijing.

What is an IOC session?

The IOC session is a general meeting of the 101 members of the IOC, 45 Honorary Members and 1 Non-Voting Member. The meeting will also be attended by senior delegates from more than 50 international sports federations. Senior delegates include presidents and secretaries. At the same time, the federations will include summer and winter sports. Regular IOC sessions are held once a year. Sessions are convened by the IOC President or at the written request of at least one-third of the members.
