Vientiane: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday met his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan. During this, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues. Jaishankar is in the capital of the Laos People’s Democratic Republic to attend the meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The two leaders met on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings. Jaishankar posted on X, “Met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings in Vientiane. Discussed our bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues.”
Jaishankar met researchers from Lao PDR
In another post on ‘X’, he said, “It was a pleasure to interact with researchers from Lao PDR, including six monks, who are travelling to India to study under various programmes. I am glad that the work towards India-Laos education partnership and capacity building is impacting the lives of common people.” He also said that he is happy to launch the ‘Common Yoga Protocol’ in Lao language developed by the ‘Art of Living Chapter’ in Vientiane.
Jaishankar met the PM of Laos
Earlier, Jaishankar met Laos Prime Minister Sonksi Siphandon and raised the issue of smuggling of Indian citizens in this Southeast Asian country. The two leaders also discussed development partnership and cooperation in areas such as defense and energy. Jaishankar also met Laos Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Selumxay Kommasith.

During the meeting, the two leaders signed MoUs on cooperation in 10 quick impact projects for Laos and sharing of breakthrough digital solutions. The Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) is an initiative of six countries- India and five ASEAN countries- Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam for cooperation in tourism, culture, education as well as transport and communications. The two leaders also released a special postage stamp celebrating the shared cultural heritage of Ramayana and Buddhism.
