India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI: Under the leadership of captain Rohit Sharma in 2022, the Indian team lost in major series. As India lost the ODI series against Bangladesh 2-1, captain Rohit fractured his finger in the second ODI. Vice-captain KL Rahul has been named as the team’s captain after Rohit was dropped from the Test series following the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka last week.

Now, with the three-match ODI series against Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka set to begin in Guwahati on Tuesday (January 10), Rohit is set to return to the side. Before returning to the team, Rohit will have to undergo a fitness test to prove that he has recovered sufficiently. Former India captain Kapil Dev has raised doubts about Rohit’s fitness for the 50-over World Cup to be held in India later this year.
“Rohit Sharma has no flaws. He has everything but I think personally, there is a big question mark over his fitness. Is he qualified enough? A captain should be someone who motivates other players to get fit and the teammates should be proud of their captain. I can definitely say that Rohit’s fitness is in serious doubt. There has been a lot of criticism that he hasn’t scored as many runs since he became captain, and I agree with that, but I don’t think there is any problem with his cricketing skills. He is a very successful cricketer. If he gets fit, the whole team will rally around him,” Kapil Dev had said.
The Assam government has declared a half-day holiday in Kamrup Metropolitan District on Tuesday in view of the India-Sri Lanka ODI in Guwahati. As per the notification issued on Sunday, all state government offices and educational institutions in the district will be closed at 1 pm. Govt says “10th January 2023 will be half day local holiday in Kamrup (Metro) district in view of India-Sri Lanka ODI to be held on 10/01/2023 at Parsapara ACA Cricket Stadium”.
