Potchefstroom: India won the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup by defeating England by 7 wickets in the final match.

In the final match of this series held in South Africa, India and England teams clashed in Potchefstroom yesterday. Batting first, England were bowled out for 68 runs in 17.1 overs. Rhianna MacDonald 19, Alexa Stonehouse 11, Sophia Small 11 and Niamh Holland 10 were the top scorers. No other player reached double-digit runs.

Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi and Parshavi Chopra took 2 wickets each for the Indian team. Batting with a target of 69 runs, the Indian team lost only 3 wickets in 14 overs and scored 69 runs to win the championship by 7 wickets.

Captain Shabali Verma scored 15, Shweta Sehrawat scored 5 and Kongadi Trisha scored 24 runs. Soumya Tiwary remained unbeaten with 24 runs.

This is the first time that an Indian team has won an ICC series in women’s cricket.
