India wins U-19 Women’s World Cup In the first match of Group D, India defeated the hosts South Africa by 7 wickets. Chasing the target of 167 runs set by South Africa, India reached the target by losing 3 wickets in 16.3 overs. Shafali hit 5 boundaries and a six in the sixth over bowled by Thabiseng Nini in the powerplay to take India to 70 without losing a wicket. Shafali (45 off 16 balls) was dismissed in the first ball of the 8th over. Meena Smit got the wicket. With Shafali out, Shweta took control of the game. Trisha also found boundaries along with the star who raised the score with successive boundaries from 6 off 12 balls and 23 off 23 balls. However, Trisha got out after scoring 15 runs off 11 balls. Meanwhile, Shweta completed fifty in 37 balls. Then, Shweta, who single-handedly carried the Indian innings, led India to a resounding victory.
