An Army Public Relations Officer in Tezpur, Assam, said, “Miram Darom, a 17-year-old from Arunachal Pradesh, was reportedly captured by the Chinese Army PLA for crossing the Line of Control. The Indian Army immediately contacted the PLA through the hotline. The Chinese military has been asked to help. “
Earlier, BJP MP from Arunachal Pradesh Tabir Gao had accused the Chinese Army (PLA) of abducting the Indian youth after he entered Indian border Arunachal Pradesh.
The BJP MP also tweeted about the incident on January 19.
Miram Dharom, a resident of Jito village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Chiang district, went hunting with his friend on Tuesday along the border with China.
What happened?
Upper Siang District Deputy Commissioner Shaswat Saurabh told the BBC: “The incident took place on the evening of January 18, but it was a very complicated area. So we received full information about the incident from a friend of the missing teenager. The full details of the incident came to our notice yesterday evening. The Indian Army is busy rescuing the missing youth and the district administration is making all possible efforts. ” said.
Responding to a question, the district deputy commissioner said, “These people live in the border village and belong to the tribal community. Usually the people here go hunting. That is when the incident took place.”
Previous incidents
In September 2020, the Chinese army captured five youths from the Subansiri district in the upper Arunachal Pradesh.
But about a week after the intervention of the Indian army, the Chinese army released all the youth.
Shaswat Saurabh has been the Deputy District Commissioner in the area since last week.
“I have learned through the media that the youth of Arunachal Pradesh have been captured by the Chinese army before. But no such incident has taken place recently, especially in this district. I am gathering more details.” Said Shaswat Selarap.
Experts say people from several villages along the Chinese border are working as cooks for the Indian military.
When the soldiers patrol the border, the local villagers are taken away several times.
There are several areas along the way along China, where Chinese and Indian forces have repeatedly clashed head-on.
So if the Chinese military had captured the local youth there might have been some motive behind it.
Apart from this, on that side of the border live many members of the Taikin tribal community in China, whose relatives have settled in India.
Until a few years ago, there was public transport on both sides. But as tensions with China on the border escalated, everything closed.
India shares 3,400 km of Line of Control (LoC) from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh with China.
In recent times, tensions between India and China, especially in the LAC area, have continued.
