Mumbai: After announcing the first team under his leadership, now the support staff of head coach Gautam Gambhir can be announced any moment. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has approved the names of Gambhir, just the announcement is awaited. Former Indian all-rounder Abhishek Nair and Netherlands’ legendary cricketer Ryan Ten Doeschate are set to join the coaching staff of the Indian team. T Dilip, who was the fielding coach during Rahul Dravid’s tenure, will retain his position. Dilip is known for being an effective fielding coach as well as for keeping the dressing room atmosphere positive. It is believed that he is very good at team bonding exercises, which is seen as an important need for players in a highly competitive environment.

Screw stuck on bowling coach

According to our partner Cricbuzz’s report, both Abhishek Nair and Ten Doeschate will be made assistant coaches. There is some ambiguity about the new bowling coach, but former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel is a strong candidate and Gautam Gambhir has already pushed hard for him. If everything goes well, Morkel will be India’s next bowling coach. There is no clarity on when and how Morkel will join the team. But Cricbuzz confirms that talks have taken place between BCCI and him regarding this role.
All the names are of Gambhir’s old generals
Abhishek Nair, Ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel, who have been included in the coaching team, have worked with Gautam Gambhir in the IPL in different franchises. Last season, when Kolkata Knight Riders lifted the trophy under Gambhir’s mentorship, Abhishek Nair and Ryan Ten Doeschate were with him, while Morkel worked with Gambhir for two years in Lucknow Super Giants. Apparently T Dilip and Abhishek Nair will travel with the team on Monday, but it is not clear when and how Ten Doeschate will join the team. He is part of the coaching staff of LA Knight Riders in Major League Cricket (MLC) in America. He can join the team directly in Colombo.

Press conference will be held on 22 July

The Indian team is scheduled to leave for Colombo from Mumbai on a charter flight at 1 pm on Monday. Before their departure, the BCCI is expected to formally introduce Gambhir as the new head coach. A press conference is planned at a five-star hotel in Andheri, Mumbai on July 22, which will be attended by newly appointed T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav. BCCI chief Jay Shah, who is already in Colombo for the annual conference of the International Cricket Council (ICC), will be able to meet the new members of the team upon reaching Sri Lanka.
