Dipa said in her statement – After much thought and contemplation, I have decided to retire from professional gymnastics. This is not an easy decision, but I think it is the right time. For as long as I can remember, gymnastics has been an important part of my life. I have lived every moment to the fullest. I am grateful for every moment.
He said in his statement – I remember that five-year-old Deepa, who was told that she could never become a gymnast because of her flat feet. Today I feel very proud looking at my achievements. Representing India on the world stage and winning medals, and most importantly, performing the Produnova vault at the Rio Olympics, has been the most memorable moment of my career. Today I feel very happy to see Deepa because she has the courage to dream.
Recalling her last win, she said- My last win, the Asian Gymnastic Championships, Tashkent, was a turning point, because till then I felt that I could push my body further, but sometimes our body tells us to rest now. The time has come, but the heart still does not agree. I want to thank my coaches Bishweshwar Nandi sir and Soma ma’am, who have guided me for the last 25 years and have become my biggest strength.
She further said- I would like to thank the Tripura Government, the Gymnastic Federation, Sports Authority of India, GoSports Foundation and Meraki Sport e Entertainment for the support I have received. And finally to my family, who were always with me, in my good and bad days.
Regarding her unbreakable relationship with sports, she said – Even though I am retiring, my connection with gymnastics will never be broken. I want to be able to give something back to the sport – maybe by mentoring, coaching, supporting other girls like me and others. Once again, thank you all for being a part of my journey.
