Bhopal: Hockey player Vivek Sagar Prasad said on Sunday that he could not sleep the whole night after India lost 2-3 to world champion Germany in the semi-finals, but the country managed to overcome this disappointment and win the bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games. India came very close to making it to its first Olympic final after 44 years, but world champion Germany stopped it by winning 3-2 in a tough semi-final. India, however, soon recovered from this setback and defeated Spain 2-1 in the third place playoff match on Thursday to win its second consecutive bronze medal at the Olympic Games. Vivek, who was part of the Indian team that won the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics before Paris, said, ‘I could not sleep the whole night after losing the semi-finals. That match kept running like a reel in my mind all night. We were heartbroken and kept thinking what we could have done better. We left this disappointment behind and won the bronze which was in our hands. Winning the bronze medal was a moment of extreme happiness for us. We enjoyed it thoroughly. We dedicated the medal (PR) to Sreejesh bhai as it was his last tournament.

Vivek, a resident of Narmadapuram (formerly Hoshangabad) district, is posted as Deputy Superintendent in Madhya Pradesh Police. On his arrival at the airport, Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Vishwas Sarang welcomed him by garlanding him. A large number of fans and his colleagues from Madhya Pradesh Police also reached the airport, who welcomed him by playing drums. The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for him for winning the bronze medal.
