Indian industrial output grew by 7.1 per cent in April on the back of strong performance from the power and mining sectors.

Statistics released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Friday:

The manufacturing sector grew by 6.3 per cent in April, the opening month of the current fiscal. In addition, output from the mining and power sectors stood at 7.8 per cent and 11.8 per cent, respectively.

The engineering materials sector grew by 14.7 per cent and the Nugo equipment sector by 8.5 per cent.

In addition, output of the primary goods, intermediate goods, infrastructure / construction materials and non-Nugo equipment sectors grew by 10.1 per cent, 7.6 per cent, 3.8 per cent and 0.3 per cent in April, respectively.
