Muscat: Two ships of the Indian Navy, Tir and Shardul, and Indian Coast Guard ship Veera have reached Muscat, the capital of Oman. These ships have reached Muscat on long range training deployment. According to the Navy, it symbolizes the strength of the existing maritime and defense relations between India and Oman. This visit of Indian military ships to Oman will continue till 9 October. The presence of Indian ships in the Gulf of Oman comes at a time when tensions between neighboring Iran and Israel are at their peak.

Part of training squadron

These ships arriving in Oman are part of the Navy’s 1st Training Squadron (1TS). At the same time, the Chief of the Southern Command of the Navy also reached Oman on Sunday. During the visit, the Indian Navy will interact with the Royal Navy of Oman on various aspects of maritime security. The talks also included discussions regarding ‘harbour-discussion’ and joint exercises between the navies.

The Indian Navy says that during the deployment of naval ships in Oman, there will also be training exchanges, professional interactions and friendly sports events between the two navies. This is 1TS’s third visit to Muscat, the capital of Oman, in the last 10 years. This interaction plays an important role in strengthening naval cooperation and maintaining the existing partnership between the two navies.

Meeting with Omani military officials

According to the Navy, along with the visit of 1TS, Vice Admiral V. Srinivas, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, will also be on an official visit to Oman from Sunday 6 October to 9 October 2024. During the visit, the Chief of the Southern Naval Command will hold bilateral discussions with Vice Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis Al Raisi, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Sultan of Oman.

Vice Admiral Srinivas will also hold bilateral discussions with Rear Admiral Saif bin Nasser bin Mohsin Al-Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman. Along with this, these Indian Navy officers will also visit major defense and training establishments in Oman.

The Indian Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman have been keen to work closely with each other in operations, training and collaborative efforts in various areas. Recently, the sixth edition of the Indian Navy and Royal Navy of Oman Staff Talks was held in New Delhi on 24 June. Now this visit of 1TS of Indian Navy will further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.
