Somali pirates often hijack merchant ships. They hijack ships in the Arabian Sea and threaten them with ransom.
The Indian Navy is engaged in patrolling to suppress the atrocities of pirates. Indian Navy also recently recovered a ship hijacked by Somali pirates.
In this situation, pirates have hijacked a cargo ship of Bangladesh near the Indian Ocean.
22 people boarded the ship with weapons. The employees on the ship were threatened and imprisoned. The hijacked vessel is now reported to be heading towards the coast of Somalia.
According to the UK’s Maritime Trade Organization, none of the crew members were injured on board the hijacked vessel. 22 people with weapons are reported to be on board.
